Mr in Memphis

Mr is doing an away rotation for dermatology in Memphis for the next 4 weeks! He is staying with family there, and his dad played football at Memphis years ago...so it's not a completely foreign town, but I already miss him! Memphis is not a short drive, so I'm taking a long weekend so I can visit in a couple weeks. (or as Mr said, it's technically only 11 days until we get to see each other again!) It just feels like such a long time, and I don't like it one bit!

My Dad is retired from the Army, and I remember when he'd be deployed, we'd try to do things to keep track of the time. Sometimes, we would make a paper chain like at Christmas, or put stickers up on the banister to count down the days until he'd be home!I haven't figured out exactly what I'll do yet, but I think I want to do something similar. Maybe just a countdown in my planner or something, but I think it'll make me feel better to see the days ticking away until he gets back home!

My weekend visit is one thing to look forward to, and I'm already planning the places for us to visit while I'm down there in Elvis' stomping grounds! I've only spent time in Memphis once, and I walked on Beale Street, visited Graceland, and saw the ducks at The Peabody. I know there's oh-so-much more to do and see. Having ribs at Rendezvous is certainly on the list, but I'd love to hear insight from any of you Memphis Belles! What are some of your favorite spots? Or even if you have just visited in the past, are there any places that you just loved? I'd really appreciate any suggestions!

I don't live in Memphis but I have lived in TN almost all my life and I have never gotten to go see Graceland and I want to sooooo bad! Sounds like you have a lot of awesome places picked out...Maybe his time away will go by fast for ya. Love the idea of a countdown! Hope you have a great week! = )

I have lived in Memphis or had family here my entire life & have never been to Graceland. Maybe I'll get around to it one day.

You can't come here & not eat BBQ. I'm not crazy about ribs so I'm not really fond of Rendezvous. The atmosphere there is great, but the food never impressed me. I love Central BBQ. There is one on Central Ave & also one on Summer. Yummy! Find the owner & tell them Kathy's niece sent you.

It really depends what time of year you're going to be here. If it were summer, I would say def. attend Memphis in May (any part) or the Italian Fest. Or even the Greek fest. Fall doesn't really have anything.
Our zoo is growing my leaps & bounds. They will be opening a new part in early October. The zoo is just large enough to see all the animals, but not so big you can't walk it in only a few hours.

Hope you have a great trip!

I have never been, but it is one of those places my DH wants to take me. He was there a few years ago on business and loves it.

I have yet to visit Memphis, so I am no help in that department! I'm sorry you'll be missing the Mr. for so many days, but I'm thrilled you'll get a long weekend with him. Here's hoping the time flies by quickly for you both!

My Husband is frequently deployed and I thank for this idea for my two little girls, I had not considered it.

I never did the paper chain growing up, but I have seen so many people count down to the holidays, wedding days, etc. What a neat way! *I found your blog through Elizabeth :)

I've always heard that you can't go to Memphis and not go to Rendezvous. I am here to tell you that YOU CAN. I was so not impressed. Maybe seek out bbq somewhere else though!

Hope you have fun!!
